\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0From November 2024 to March 2025, we utilized the museum’s closure period for garden renovations to launch a karuta card project with our Museum Supporters. The theme was \u201cCreating Commemorative Content for the 100th Anniversary,\u201d aimed at educational outreach. For the production, we first selected 46 keywords from hiragana \u201c\u3042\u201d to \u201c\u3093\u201d related to Omiya Bonsai Village and bonsai culture. Museum Supporters then created suitable verses for the reading cards and image concepts for the picture cards, followed by the illustration work. The illustrations convey the charm of Omiya Bonsai Village and bonsai itself, featuring a friendly, soft atmosphere while expressing the unique characteristics of each tree species, such as the village’s ambiance and the shapes of bonsai trunks, branches, and leaves. Furthermore, the back of each card includes explanations of the keywords aimed at elementary school students, allowing them to naturally learn about the bonsai village and bonsai while playing. As a traditional Japanese game, this karuta set is enjoyable for a wide range of ages, from children to adults.
