We will have a special exhibition of our most valuable bonsai \u201cHigurashi\u201d (Japanese white pine estimated 450 years old).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the early Showa era, its presence has been a topic of discussion in Shikoku. Under the cherished care of Niigata’s master bonsai artist, Chutaro Nakano, it earned the name \u201cHigurashi\u201d (meaning \u201call day long\u201d) because one could gaze at it all day without ever growing tired of its beauty.<\/span><\/p>\n

Its form, elegant on both sides, gave birth to the bonsai world’s adage: \u201cA great tree has no front or back.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Transplanted from its wild mountain roots over 90 years ago, and meticulously tended over the years by renowned bonsai masters, Higurashi retains the ruggedness unique to wild-grown specimens while being shaped into a form brimming with dignity. It is a precious bonsai that has carved its name into the history of bonsai.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, during the Omiya Bonsai Village Centennial Special Exhibition \u201cThe Green Frontier: 100 Years of Omiya Bonsai Village,\u201d where each garden in the village takes turns displaying bonsai weekly, Higurashi will be exhibited during the period of Seiko-en, which was deeply involved in enhancing its stature.<\/span><\/p>\n
