Workshop for Children: My First Bonsai

Place:Omiya Bonsai Art Museum 2nd Floor Lecture Room
This workshop is for children experiencing bonsai for the first time and their parents/guardians.
Participants will make a small bonsai while learning different ways of making bonsai. They will also learn about how to water and grow bonsai so that they can make bonsai an everyday part of their lives. Parents and guardians can also enjoy making a bonsai.
The starting tree will be Japanese juniper (shimpaku). It is strong in the heat and cold and is known as an easy bonsai to grow. It is loved by bonsai enthusiasts throughout the world.
*We plan to use the same species throughout the year, but this may change due to availability.
In addition to the 15cm sapling, a pot, potting soil, and moss will also be included in the participation fee.
[How to Participate]
Apply through the Saitama City Lifelong Learning Information System (Japanese only). You must apply before coming; first come first served.
Application dates/times: The 5th of each month from 12:00 PM until 8:30 PM the day of the workshop.
*Applications will be closed if all of the spots are filled.
[Workshop Information]
Dates: (2025) April 20th, May 18th, October 19th, November 16th; (2026) February 15th, March 15th. All of the dates are on the third Sunday of the month from 10:00-11:30 AM.
Venue: Saitama City Omiya Bonsai Art Museum, 2nd Floor Lecture Room
Target: Elementary-aged children and their parent/guardian
Fee: 3,000 yen (includes the cost of the materials to create the bonsai)
Capacity: 10 people
What to bring: apron, clothes that can get dirty, gloves or a towel for wiping hands

- There is a fee to use our parking lot
- *Passenger vehicle: first two hours are free, after that 110 yen/30 minutes
- *Large vehicles: 880 yen
- *Handicap spaces are available (free)
- This workshop may be cancelled due to extreme weather
