The Japanese Juniper is a member of the cypress family. The shari (the dead white wood), which forms the majority of the trunk as it flows out, makes this Japanese juniper revered amongst bonsai enthusiasts. Juun, which means “festive cloud”, got its name from how its curved shari resembles a rising cloud.
