As the white trunk shows its strong curves, each branch bears a well-balanced flush of leaves. The spotted leaves of the star jasmine are soft pink when freshly grown out, but gradually become white. These white spots are where this plant gets its name in Japanese, which means “first snow vine”. They paint the plant with a more florid appearance, giving the viewer a cool impression.
