The name of this bonsai, Shirakami-no-sato, comes from the Shirakami mountain range that runs from Akita Prefecture to Aomori Prefecture and is known as a natural home for precious beech tree groves. This yoseue, or group planting, of beech trees with their particularly white trunks rising straight up, gives us a vivid image of a deep forest.
