This piece takes the form of a great dragon with an impressive body gliding by the waterside, twisting its head up to the heavens in an attempt to soar upwards. The shari, starting at the base and running the length of the trunk, can be thought of as the stomach of the dragon, wet from flying over the surface of the water. The dark bark is like a dragon`s scales, and the needles are the mane, the spaces between which call the wind whistling through. With an impressive length of 1.6 meters, this bonsai is well suited to its name, Seiryū, which literally means Blue Dragon, as it runs and twists horizontally like a dragon over the water’s surface.
