The Japanese name for this type of cherry is kanzakura, which means "cold cherry". This name is given because the tree blooms earlier than other cherry trees, when the weather is still cold. While the thick trunk gives an air of power, when the flowers of this tree blossom the viewer is also able to enjoy the grace of the tree’s flowered form.
