While the Japanese name for the flowering quince includes the Chinese character for apricot, it is not an apricot at all, but a variety of quince. This particular bonsai comes from Shimane Prefecture. The tree bears flowers similar to apricots throughout the four seasons, giving it its Japanese name. This tree has been tailored to look as though it has taken root on a high cliff and grown down to the valley below, a style known as the cascade style.
