The Japanese name of kamatsuka (literally meaning “scythe-handle”) originates from how its wood was used to create scythe handles due to its sturdiness. Its thick, strong trunk gives this tree a grand feel. From its branches, which lean to the left out of its thick trunk, clusters of small white flowers bloom in May. These later give way to refreshing crimson fruit in autumn.
