This piece is an ishitsuki-bonsai, or a rock-grown bonsai, created by Tomio Yamada, the 4th generation owner of Seiko-en in the Omiya Bonsai Village. It was created by planting a Japanese White Pine into a unique circular stone and letting it take root. Tomio Yamada was captivated by the rugged appearance of this stone and originally planted an Ezo pine into it around 50 years ago. In 2010 it was remade with a Japanese White Pine, and is planted together with Japanese quince and Japanese maple trees.
