This piece is an ishitsuki-bonsai, or a rock-grown bonsai, created by Tomio Yamada, the 4th generation owner of Seiko-en in the Omiya Bonsai Village. It was made by planting a Japanese white pine into a unique, rounded stone and letting it take root. Captivated by the rugged appearance of this stone, Tomio Yamada originally planted an Ezo spruce inside it around 50 years ago. It was later remade with this Japanese white pine as its base, along with a flowering quince and Japanese maple tree, creating a harmony of stillness and motion within a singular piece.
Estimated Age: 50 years
