The design of this pot, with its tube-shaped body supported by three legs, was used in censers made during the Chinese Song dynasty (960-1279). The pattern present on the body of the pot is a trigram design, representing all of creation. This type of design is called sangi in Japanese, which were rods used when working with eight trigrams.
