White clay pots, or “hakudei,” turn slightly yellowish white when fired because of the low iron content in the clay. The well-worn surface of the white clay exhibits a beautiful luster. The clay is delicately molded, depicting a bird perched on a plum branch on the front and an orchid flower on the back. The signature of Xu Zhengfu is inscribed on the base.
