This earthenware pot, unglazed and earth-toned, is fired to resemble the color of ripe persimmons, hence its Japanese name “kaki-dei” (persimmon clay). On the long sides of this piece, mud pigments depict a lakeside landscape. Believed to be an imported item from China, made during the Qing Dynasty (1616–1912) and known in the bonsai world as “old import,” it comes with a dedicated stand for display.
