This is a unique pot in a form called takatsuki (meaning ‘high cup’). Pottery in this shape can be found in Japan from the Yayoi period (c. 300 BC—300 AD). It has three sets of three bamboo-like legs that support the bowl on top. The body of this pot is adorned with a floral arabesque pattern created using a blue underglaze technique called ‘sometsuke’ in Japanese. The rim of the pot is also lined with a floral motif.
