The vertical stripe design of this piece was created using a technique that involves painting over the white base of the pot with blue pigment before glazing. Three legs support this pot’s domed shape. As striped blue and white porcelain pots such as this can be seen in many ukiyo-e woodblock prints, we know they were in use since the Edo period (1603-1867). A seigaiha wave pattern has been adorned at the rim, while the inside has a lotus petal pattern.
