The faces of this piece are adorned with embossed designs of turtles with long, tail-like seaweed growing on their shells. This type of design is called minogame in Japanese, which comes from how the turtles appear to be wearing mino (a type of straw raincoat). This is often used in art as a symbol of longevity. A highlight of this piece is in the workmanship of the legs that support the body of the pot; these have been crafted into the shape of lion heads.
