Due to the delicate ceramic painting in red, gold, and silver, some say that this is a piece of Kotō ware from Hikone, Shiga, in the former Omi Province. The sides of the pot feature three rounded mirrors, each with a different design: one of a phoenix, one of a dragon, and one of the eight horses of King Mu. It is thought that this piece was commissioned by Shūsho-en in Osaka, known for producing morning glory in the Edo period, as that name is found on this piece.
