Heian Tofukuji (1890-1970) was a leading Japanese bonsai potter, specializing primarily in creating pots for small bonsai. This work features a beautiful contrast of white and blue, achieved by selectively applying cobalt blue glaze over a white base glaze. Its clean form and bold design have earned it the reputation as the finest example among similar works employing this selective glazing technique, called kakewake.
