Heian Tofukuji (1890-1970) was a leading Japanese bonsai potter, specializing primarily in creating pots for shohin (small) bonsai. His pot forms and glaze colors were exceptionally diverse, and he produced numerous highly practical pots prioritizing their visual effect when planted with bonsai. This piece is a small-sized green-glazed bonsai pot, a specialty of Tofukuji. Kiln variation (yohen) has produced a unique mottled pattern with deep, rich character.
