This pot, relatively rare in terms of its large size, is the work of Heian Kōzan, a potter from Kyoto. It was created using a special technique for glazing pots with a deep lapis lazuli colour. Each side of this pot is adorned with depictions of divine beasts. On the back, it features a blooming Japanese peony design. On the front side, there is an embossed carving of Kinkō, a Taoist immortal figure from Chinese folklore, riding a koi fish through the river to catch a young dragon.
