This pot, relatively rare in terms of its large size, is the work of Heian Kozan, a potter from Kyoto. Using a special technique for glazing pots with a deep lapis color each side of this pot is adorned with depictions of divine beasts, a Japanese peony in full bloom, and on one side Kinko, a magical figure from Chinese folklore, riding a koi fish through the river to catch a young dragon.
