This very cleanly molded pot was created by Heian Kozan (1905-1990), a Japanese bonsai pot artist held in the same high regard as Heian Tofukuji. The front of this piece features an embossed design of a lion playing alongside a peony, over which a thick cobalt blue glaze is applied. This design is considered to be a representative motif of Kozan and some pieces feature Jun and yellow glazes.
