This masterpiece of “mottled purple copper” is a specialty of Hōun. The speckled patterns visible on the surface were created by reheating the piece over charcoal after removing it from its mold. The double-layered body has a repeating manji motif. The manji is a positive symbol of Buddhism and good fortune.
