The rim of this piece is folded outward, revealing an openwork carving of a manji pattern. The manji is a positive symbol of Buddhism and good fortune. After removal from its mold, this piece was re-fired over charcoal to create a variegated finish. The main highlight of this piece is the deep hue of its mottled purple copper glaze.
