The Yoshimagawa River in Fukushima Prefecture is well-known as a quarry for brilliant suiseki stones. Stones such as this with natural depressions on their horizontal faces capable of holding water, are known as mizutamari-ishi (waterpool stones) by suiseki enthusiasts. We can feel a sense of natural scenery in this stone as we are reminded of sandy beaches or the shores of a lake.
