This Kamogawa-ishi suiseki is notable for its glossy black surface. Stones such as this piece with a depression in them that could hold water are referred to as mizutamari-ishi, or waterpool stones. The widely opened mouth of the depression in this stone paints a visage of a lake forged in the bosom of a mountain.
