The painting depicts a gorgeously dressed prostitute from the Yoshiwara red light district, named Takigawa, selecting potted plants in front of a shelf full of plants at a night fair. There are 15 different plants placed on the shelves, including Japanese sacred lily, sago palm, and apricot. Below the shelves, one can see scissors, a potted pine tree, as well as a pheasant’s eye inside a rectangular pot. The young attendant next to Takigawa appears to be holding a plant wrapped in paper in her left hand.
