This is a painting depicting a joreishiki, a popular kind of gathering or group for women to learn etiquette in the Meiji period. In this scene, the etiquette required for handling green tea and traditional Japanese sweets is depicted. Just outside of the room in the garden, a bonsai display can be seen. On this display, a pine tree, bamboo, plantain, sweetflag, as well as lotus are depicted.
