Part of a series where famous historical figures are depicted by different artists. This piece features Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the 15th and last shōgun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan. A Western desk with a Western-styled book and a lamp on it is placed in the zashiki tatami room. A standing clock and a calligraphy scroll that reads "hōhi anshō" is placed in the alcove. Noble orchid flowers and a sweet flag in the rock-grown style are depicted on the shelf to the right of the frame.
