“Bokutei” refers to the area along the east bank of the Sumida River in the Sumida Ward of Tokyo. This scene is that of a ferry just reaching the banks of the river, with Asakusa visible across the river. From the other side of the river, we can make out the Temple of Matsuchiyama Shoden, the ferry crossing to which was well known. As the boat reaches the dock, we can see that one male passenger is transporting bonsai using tsuri-dai, or scaffold for transporting.
