A hanging scroll by the early Meji period painter Kōno Bairei. In the center of the piece, a red Japanese apricot in a faintly glazed large pot is depicted. A pine tree and bamboo are planted next to this apricot in a smaller pot with a dark color. They come together to create a shochikubai display, a planting of pine, bamboo, and apricot that is usually put on display during the New Year for good luck.
