A street stall of the plant seller by the Kaminarimon outside of Sensō-ji is depicted. The area around Kaminarimon was the busiest shopping district in Edo and was famous for the potted plant sellers who would do business there. Numerous ukiyo-e prints depict similar scenes to this piece.
Various potted plants such as camellia, sacred lily, pheasant’s eye, and sago palm are displayed close together on the three shelves depicted. Scissors for pruning plants can also be seen standing up below the shelves. All kinds of unique pots have also been carefully depicted, such as a blue and white porcelain pot with a snowflake design.
