樹形：吹流し／推定樹齢：120年
脇床：ハゼ
樹の幹や枝が、自然の風向きによって一方向に流れている姿をあらわした、「吹流し」の樹形に仕立てられた一作。複数の木々を植えることにより、海辺の風を受ける松林の情景をあらわしている。

Japanese White Pine
Style: Fukinagashi (Windswept) ／ Estimated Age: 120 Years
Side alcove: Haze, Wax Tree
The trunks and branches of this piece are arranged to look as though they have grown naturally in a single direction blown by wind. The multiple trees grown together here express a scene of a small pine forest brown by the seashore winds.

アメリカ蔦
樹形：懸崖
断崖に自生する木の姿を見立てた「懸崖」の本作は、北米東南部やメキシコを原産地とするブドウ科ツタ属の蔓植物。日本には大正初期頃に渡来したとされている。この季節は小さな花芽がたくさんつき、やがて訪れる実りの秋に備えている。

Virginia Creeper
Style: Kengai (Cascade)
The Virginia creeper is a vine of the grape family native to the southeastern part of North America and to Mexico. It was raised into the cascade style to appear like it was growing off a high cliff. This species is said to have been introduced to Japan during the early Taisho period (1912-1926). It has many flower buds in this season in preparation for the autumn when it will bear fruit.

いわしで　A-122
樹形：寄せ植え／推定樹齢：60年
掛軸：今尾景年「朧月」E-033 ／付書院：ヌスビトハギとヒメフウチソウ寄せ植え
本州の一部と朝鮮半島に自生する、いわしでの寄せ植え。約50年前に制作された本作は、大宮盆栽村の藤樹園で修業した松雪園主・黒須輝夫氏の作。親木を中心に、複数の幹が放射状に広がり、木立さながらの景色を生みだしている。

Korean Hornbeam
Style: Yoseue (Group Planting) ／ Estimated Age: 60 Years
Hanging Scroll: Hazy Moon (Painting by Imao Keinen) E-033 ／ Writing Alcove: Nusubito-hagi ／ Japanese Forest Grass (Group Planting)
This group planting is composed of Korean hornbeam trees, which grow naturally in Honshu, Japan and in the Korean peninsula. This piece was created around fifty years ago by Teruo Kurosu, master of the Shosetsu-en Bonsai Garden, who trained at the Toju-en Bonsai Garden. Both of these gardens are located here in the Omiya Bonsai Village. The multiple trunks radiating from the main trunk create the scene of a groeve with fresh, green trees.

小真弓
樹形：半懸崖
ニシキギの一種である小真弓を、半懸崖の形状に仕立てた作。夏の強い日差しの下で葉焼けし、紅葉したかのように鮮やかな姿を見せる。そこここに付いた青い果実は、秋を迎えると真紅に色付き、鮮やかな姿に装いを変える。

Komayumi Tree
Style: Han-kengai (Semi Cascade)
This bonsai has been raised into the han-kengai, or “semi cascade” style. This species is a small variation of spindle tree named ko-ma-yumi. After blooming with pale green flowers in early summer, the plant bears small fruit here and there. In autumn, these fruit transform into a vivid red color, giving the piece an even more vibrant appearance.

好間川石　銘蒼潤
採石地：好間川流域（福島県いわき市）
高低差のある大きな二つの岩が寄り添うように連なり、右に傾斜した断崖を思わせる本席は、福島県の好間川流域から産出した岩潟石。険しさよりも、いかにも自然石らしい温雅な風情を讃えている。銘の「蒼潤」は、好間川石ならではの蒼味がかった石色と潤うような石肌から付けられたものであろう。

Yoshimagawa-Ishi named So-jyun
Quarry: Yoshima River, Iwaki City, Fukushima Pref.
This piece which as been made to look like two stones of different sizes huddled together, resembles a cliff which slants to the right. Taken from the Yoshima River in Fukushima Prefecture, it gives off a natural, graceful aura. The name of this suiseki-stone “So-jyun”, means damp blue which comes from the moist, blue tint of its surface, which you often see in stones from Yoshima River.

安定感のあるどっしりとした根元と、歳月を重ねた荒々しい樹皮が、黒松ならではの力強い生命力や、大樹の風格を感じさせる。バランスよく配された枝が、端正な趣をかたちづくる一点。

Japanese Black Pine
Style: Moyogi (Curved Trunk) ／ Estimated Age: 100 Years
The imposing trunk base, with its feeling of stability, and the bark that has been harshly tempered over many years, make this Japanese black pine appear resilient and enormous. The balance in the branch placement on this piece helps to create its graceful shape.

白泥葡萄栗鼠図長方鉢　B-137
作陶地：中国／年代：不詳
用土中の鉄分含有量が少ないために、焼成した際にわずかに黄色みを帯びた白色となることから、「白泥」と及ばれる泥物の鉢。本品の胴部前面には、色泥による葡萄と栗鼠の図が描かれている。葡萄と栗鼠は、豊穣を意味する吉祥文様として知られており、様々な器物などに使われている。

White Rectangular Bonsai Pot with a Grapevine and Squirrel Design
Location: China ／ Estimated Year: Unknown
This type of pot is called hakudei, meaning “white clay”, due to how it turns white with a yellowish tint during the ceramic firing process. This happens because of the small iron content within the clay that is used. A picture of a grapevine and squirrels is displayed on the front of this pot. This vine and squirrel design is said to bring about a bountiful harvest. As such, this type of design is used in a wide variety of ornaments.

姫林檎　A-112
樹形：株立ち／推定樹齢：40年
林檎の盆栽の中でも、とりわけ無数の実を付けることが特徴の姫林檎。４月の開花期には白に近い薄桃色の花を咲かせ、６～７月頃からうずら卵大の実を結ぶ。これから秋深くなるにつれて、実が鮮やかな紅色となり、美しい姿を見せてくれる。

Chines Crab Apple
Style: Kabudachi (Clump) ／ Estimated Age: 40 Years
Crab apple trees are known for the great number of fruit which they bear when compared to other apple bonsai. In April, it adorns its branches with light pink flowers. Then, during the months of June and July it bears small apples. In this season, its pink buds begin to burst, giving this bonsai a beautiful appearance.

山香ばしほか寄せ植え
樹形：寄せ植え
葉を揉むと芳香があることから名付けられた「山香ばし」の一作。張り出した幹は途中で折り返し、独特の模様を描きながら伸びている。りんどうと野菊が根元を覆い、鉢の代わりに石盤を用いることで、山野の景色を表現している。

Yamakobashi, Gentian, and Nokongiku (Group Planting)
Style: Yoseue (Group Planting)
Yamakobashi, which literally means “Fragrant mountain”, got its name from the pleasant fragrance that its leaves let off when rubbed. The slender, bent trunk stretches out to give this tree a distinct from. Gentians and nokongiku cover the rootbase of this yamakobashi. These, together with the stone slab used instead of a pot, give the piece the impression of an open mountain field.

体躯を震わし昇天する巨龍のごとく、植物でありながらもうごめくような躍動感で見る者に迫る超大型の真柏。切り裂くようなジンの動き、捻じれてたわむシャリ幹のすごみ、唯一無二の圧倒的な面構えに、ただ目を奪われるばかりである。

Japanese juniper named Zuiryū

This extraordinarily large Japanese juniper overwhelms viewers with an intense sense of movement like that of a giant dragon soaring through the clouds. One can not help but be amazed by every part of this piece, from the shape of the jin that looks like they are tearing off, the power in its warped, twisted shari trunk, and its truly unique, formidable shape.

深みのある緑色をたたえた葉の繁りから、右上に鋭く突き出た真っ白な「天ジン」が鮮やかな対比を見せる中品の真柏。薄暗がりの草の間の床に浮かび上がる、白・緑の色彩の対比が一つの見どころである。

Japanese Juniper
This is a medium-sized Japanese juniper that shows off a vibrant contrast between its deep green foliage and the white tenjin which pokes out from the top of it. One may enjoy the juxtaposition between white and green in the dimly lit so room.

添え：ギボウシ
舟型の石に宿った老木は、白いシャリをくねらせながら、旋回するように流れる。枝は石底より下方にせり出し、懸崖の姿を見せる。印象的な細工の高卓ともよく調和し、あたかも飛沫を浴びながら、真っ白な波頭を進む舟のようでもある。

Japanese Juniper named Ryū-un
Companion Piece: Hosta
This old tree rests in a stone shaped like a boat. It flows out by twisting its white shari trunk. The branches reach out below the stone, creating a cascade-style shape. A harmony is created between the appearance of the piece and the tall, impactful shoku (table). It almost looks like a boat sailing through whitecaps with water splashing around it.

五葉松
5本の幹からなる株立ちの五葉松。堂々たる根元から分かれた幹は、左右に流れるように枝を広げ、鉢の口縁を覆うかのようにこんもりと枝葉が繁る。水平方向に安定して広がる樹形は、平和な時代を物語っているかのようである。

Japanese White Pine
A Japanese white pine made up of 5 trunks growing from the same imposing root base. These trunks split out into multiple directions and spread out their branches to the left and right, creating a form where the foliage covers the rim of the pot. This flat, stable piece is one fitting of these peaceful times.

左にゆるやかに流れる斜幹の樹形。低い位置で張り出した下枝がアクセントになり、均整の取れた姿を見せる。存在感をみせるシャリには、筋状の皺が刻まれ、窪みには苔も生えつつある。本樹が経てきた果てしない歳月に思いを馳せたい。

Japanese Juniper
This piece is in the shakan, or slanted trunk, style of bonsai. The form of this tree is well balanced, with the lower branch which shoots out from below giving it an accent. Ripples run through its prominent shari. Moss can be seen in the dents of these. We hope you can begin to comprehend the unfathomable number of ages this tree has seen.

緋梅（大盃）
添え：観音石
半分ほどが裂けた幹と、荒れた樹皮が、古木らしさを表している。一方で、鉢から溢れんばかりに張り出した根や、来る春に咲く花芽にエネルギーを分けた葉の様は、植物の生命力の確かさを感じさせる。

Japanese Apricot (Ō-sakazuki)
Companion piece: Kannon Bodhisattva-figured Suiseki Stone
The half-split trunk and rough bark make it feel like an ancient tree. On the other hand, one can still feel a certain liveliness from this tree from its roots which seem almost like they will burst from the pot and the leaves which appear to have taken energy for spring flower buds.

太く逞しい幹は優美な曲線を描き、左下の差し枝と整えられた枝棚が作品のバランスを整え、全体の印象をたおやかなものにしている。数を抑え、芽を起こし、整然と手入れされた葉は、五葉松らしい美しさを放っている。

Japanese White Pine
An air of gracefulness comes from the entirety of this piece through the elegant curved shape of its thick, strong trunk and the balance created through its sashi-eda (directional branch) and tidy branch layers. The beauty of a Japanese white pine is shown through the carefully pruned leaves and conservative number of buds.

シャリと水吸い（生きた部分）を織り交ぜながら捻転を繰り返す幹は、本樹の力強さと生命力を表している。躍動感ある幾筋ものジンは、風にたなびく枝や雲間から垣間見える雷光のようにも見え、自然の厳しさを思わせる作品となっている。

Japanese Juniper
The strength and vitality of this tree are represented through its trunk, which twists and turns with intertwining shari and mizusui (the living part of the tree). The various jin are dynamic, appearing almost like flashes of lightning seen through the swaying branches or the breaking of clouds. One can feel the intensity of nature in this piece.

真柏　銘彩雲
幹のほとんどが枯れ、白く骨と化した「シャリ」を抱き、引き裂くように枝を反り返して、ダイナミックに右に傾いて伸びる幹姿が見どころの真柏。かつて盆栽雑誌上の試みとして公募・採択された、銘「彩雲」を冠する大型盆栽である。

Japanese Juniper named Sai-un
Most of the trunk has withered and has become dead white wood known as shari. This trunk, which dynamically stretches out to the right while sending out branches that look like they are tearing from it, is the main highlight of this Japanese juniper. The name of this large bonsai Sai-un, meaning “iridescent cloud”, was chosen through a competition in a bonsai magazine.

樹形：吹流し／推定樹齢：120年
脇床：ハゼ
樹の幹や枝が、自然の風向きによって一方向に流れている姿をあらわした、「吹流し」の樹形に仕立てられた一作。複数の木々を植えることにより、海辺の風を受ける松林の情景をあらわしている。

Japanese White Pine
Style: Fukinagashi (Windswept) ／ Estimated Age: 120 Years
Side alcove: Haze, Wax Tree
The trunks and branches of this piece are arranged to look as though they have grown naturally in a single direction blown by wind. The multiple trees grown together here express a scene of a small pine forest brown by the seashore winds.

アメリカ蔦
樹形：懸崖
断崖に自生する木の姿を見立てた「懸崖」の本作は、北米東南部やメキシコを原産地とするブドウ科ツタ属の蔓植物。日本には大正初期頃に渡来したとされている。この季節は小さな花芽がたくさんつき、やがて訪れる実りの秋に備えている。

Virginia Creeper
Style: Kengai (Cascade)
The Virginia creeper is a vine of the grape family native to the southeastern part of North America and to Mexico. It was raised into the cascade style to appear like it was growing off a high cliff. This species is said to have been introduced to Japan during the early Taisho period (1912-1926). It has many flower buds in this season in preparation for the autumn when it will bear fruit.

樹形：寄せ植え／推定樹齢：60年
掛軸：今尾景年「朧月」E-033 ／付書院：ヌスビトハギとヒメフウチソウ寄せ植え
本州の一部と朝鮮半島に自生する、いわしでの寄せ植え。約50年前に制作された本作は、大宮盆栽村の藤樹園で修業した松雪園主・黒須輝夫氏の作。親木を中心に、複数の幹が放射状に広がり、木立さながらの景色を生みだしている。

Korean Hornbeam
Style: Yoseue (Group Planting) ／ Estimated Age: 60 Years
Hanging Scroll: Hazy Moon (Painting by Imao Keinen) E-033 ／ Writing Alcove: Nusubito-hagi ／ Japanese Forest Grass (Group Planting)
This group planting is composed of Korean hornbeam trees, which grow naturally in Honshu, Japan and in the Korean peninsula. This piece was created around fifty years ago by Teruo Kurosu, master of the Shosetsu-en Bonsai Garden, who trained at the Toju-en Bonsai Garden. Both of these gardens are located here in the Omiya Bonsai Village. The multiple trunks radiating from the main trunk create the scene of a groeve with fresh, green trees.

小真弓
樹形：半懸崖
ニシキギの一種である小真弓を、半懸崖の形状に仕立てた作。夏の強い日差しの下で葉焼けし、紅葉したかのように鮮やかな姿を見せる。そこここに付いた青い果実は、秋を迎えると真紅に色付き、鮮やかな姿に装いを変える。

Komayumi Tree
Style: Han-kengai (Semi Cascade)
This bonsai has been raised into the han-kengai, or “semi cascade” style. This species is a small variation of spindle tree named ko-ma-yumi. After blooming with pale green flowers in early summer, the plant bears small fruit here and there. In autumn, these fruit transform into a vivid red color, giving the piece an even more vibrant appearance.

好間川石　銘蒼潤
採石地：好間川流域（福島県いわき市）
高低差のある大きな二つの岩が寄り添うように連なり、右に傾斜した断崖を思わせる本席は、福島県の好間川流域から産出した岩潟石。険しさよりも、いかにも自然石らしい温雅な風情を讃えている。銘の「蒼潤」は、好間川石ならではの蒼味がかった石色と潤うような石肌から付けられたものであろう。

Yoshimagawa-Ishi named So-jyun
Quarry: Yoshima River, Iwaki City, Fukushima Pref.
This piece which as been made to look like two stones of different sizes huddled together, resembles a cliff which slants to the right. Taken from the Yoshima River in Fukushima Prefecture, it gives off a natural, graceful aura. The name of this suiseki-stone “So-jyun”, means damp blue which comes from the moist, blue tint of its surface, which you often see in stones from Yoshima River.

The imposing trunk base, with its feeling of stability, and the bark that has been harshly tempered over many years, make this Japanese black pine appear resilient and enormous. The balance in the branch placement on this piece helps to create its graceful shape.

白泥葡萄栗鼠図長方鉢　B-137
作陶地：中国／年代：不詳
用土中の鉄分含有量が少ないために、焼成した際にわずかに黄色みを帯びた白色となることから、「白泥」と及ばれる泥物の鉢。本品の胴部前面には、色泥による葡萄と栗鼠の図が描かれている。葡萄と栗鼠は、豊穣を意味する吉祥文様として知られており、様々な器物などに使われている。

White Rectangular Bonsai Pot with a Grapevine and Squirrel Design
Location: China ／ Estimated Year: Unknown
This type of pot is called hakudei, meaning “white clay”, due to how it turns white with a yellowish tint during the ceramic firing process. This happens because of the small iron content within the clay that is used. A picture of a grapevine and squirrels is displayed on the front of this pot. This vine and squirrel design is said to bring about a bountiful harvest. As such, this type of design is used in a wide variety of ornaments.

樹形：株立ち／推定樹齢：40年
林檎の盆栽の中でも、とりわけ無数の実を付けることが特徴の姫林檎。４月の開花期には白に近い薄桃色の花を咲かせ、６～７月頃からうずら卵大の実を結ぶ。これから秋深くなるにつれて、実が鮮やかな紅色となり、美しい姿を見せてくれる。

Chines Crab Apple
Style: Kabudachi (Clump) ／ Estimated Age: 40 Years
Crab apple trees are known for the great number of fruit which they bear when compared to other apple bonsai. In April, it adorns its branches with light pink flowers. Then, during the months of June and July it bears small apples. In this season, its pink buds begin to burst, giving this bonsai a beautiful appearance.

山香ばしほか寄せ植え
樹形：寄せ植え
葉を揉むと芳香があることから名付けられた「山香ばし」の一作。張り出した幹は途中で折り返し、独特の模様を描きながら伸びている。りんどうと野菊が根元を覆い、鉢の代わりに石盤を用いることで、山野の景色を表現している。

Yamakobashi, Gentian, and Nokongiku (Group Planting)
Style: Yoseue (Group Planting)
Yamakobashi, which literally means “Fragrant mountain”, got its name from the pleasant fragrance that its leaves let off when rubbed. The slender, bent trunk stretches out to give this tree a distinct from. Gentians and nokongiku cover the rootbase of this yamakobashi. These, together with the stone slab used instead of a pot, give the piece the impression of an open mountain field.

体躯を震わし昇天する巨龍のごとく、植物でありながらもうごめくような躍動感で見る者に迫る超大型の真柏。切り裂くようなジンの動き、捻じれてたわむシャリ幹のすごみ、唯一無二の圧倒的な面構えに、ただ目を奪われるばかりである。

Japanese juniper named Zuiryū

This extraordinarily large Japanese juniper overwhelms viewers with an intense sense of movement like that of a giant dragon soaring through the clouds. One can not help but be amazed by every part of this piece, from the shape of the jin that looks like they are tearing off, the power in its warped, twisted shari trunk, and its truly unique, formidable shape.

深みのある緑色をたたえた葉の繁りから、右上に鋭く突き出た真っ白な「天ジン」が鮮やかな対比を見せる中品の真柏。薄暗がりの草の間の床に浮かび上がる、白・緑の色彩の対比が一つの見どころである。

Japanese Juniper
This is a medium-sized Japanese juniper that shows off a vibrant contrast between its deep green foliage and the white tenjin which pokes out from the top of it. One may enjoy the juxtaposition between white and green in the dimly lit so room.

添え：ギボウシ
舟型の石に宿った老木は、白いシャリをくねらせながら、旋回するように流れる。枝は石底より下方にせり出し、懸崖の姿を見せる。印象的な細工の高卓ともよく調和し、あたかも飛沫を浴びながら、真っ白な波頭を進む舟のようでもある。

Japanese Juniper named Ryū-un
Companion Piece: Hosta
This old tree rests in a stone shaped like a boat. It flows out by twisting its white shari trunk. The branches reach out below the stone, creating a cascade-style shape. A harmony is created between the appearance of the piece and the tall, impactful shoku (table). It almost looks like a boat sailing through whitecaps with water splashing around it.

五葉松
5本の幹からなる株立ちの五葉松。堂々たる根元から分かれた幹は、左右に流れるように枝を広げ、鉢の口縁を覆うかのようにこんもりと枝葉が繁る。水平方向に安定して広がる樹形は、平和な時代を物語っているかのようである。

Japanese White Pine
A Japanese white pine made up of 5 trunks growing from the same imposing root base. These trunks split out into multiple directions and spread out their branches to the left and right, creating a form where the foliage covers the rim of the pot. This flat, stable piece is one fitting of these peaceful times.

左にゆるやかに流れる斜幹の樹形。低い位置で張り出した下枝がアクセントになり、均整の取れた姿を見せる。存在感をみせるシャリには、筋状の皺が刻まれ、窪みには苔も生えつつある。本樹が経てきた果てしない歳月に思いを馳せたい。

Japanese Juniper
This piece is in the shakan, or slanted trunk, style of bonsai. The form of this tree is well balanced, with the lower branch which shoots out from below giving it an accent. Ripples run through its prominent shari. Moss can be seen in the dents of these. We hope you can begin to comprehend the unfathomable number of ages this tree has seen.

緋梅（大盃）
添え：観音石
半分ほどが裂けた幹と、荒れた樹皮が、古木らしさを表している。一方で、鉢から溢れんばかりに張り出した根や、来る春に咲く花芽にエネルギーを分けた葉の様は、植物の生命力の確かさを感じさせる。

Japanese Apricot (Ō-sakazuki)
Companion piece: Kannon Bodhisattva-figured Suiseki Stone
The half-split trunk and rough bark make it feel like an ancient tree. On the other hand, one can still feel a certain liveliness from this tree from its roots which seem almost like they will burst from the pot and the leaves which appear to have taken energy for spring flower buds.

太く逞しい幹は優美な曲線を描き、左下の差し枝と整えられた枝棚が作品のバランスを整え、全体の印象をたおやかなものにしている。数を抑え、芽を起こし、整然と手入れされた葉は、五葉松らしい美しさを放っている。

Japanese White Pine
An air of gracefulness comes from the entirety of this piece through the elegant curved shape of its thick, strong trunk and the balance created through its sashi-eda (directional branch) and tidy branch layers. The beauty of a Japanese white pine is shown through the carefully pruned leaves and conservative number of buds.

シャリと水吸い（生きた部分）を織り交ぜながら捻転を繰り返す幹は、本樹の力強さと生命力を表している。躍動感ある幾筋ものジンは、風にたなびく枝や雲間から垣間見える雷光のようにも見え、自然の厳しさを思わせる作品となっている。

Japanese Juniper
The strength and vitality of this tree are represented through its trunk, which twists and turns with intertwining shari and mizusui (the living part of the tree). The various jin are dynamic, appearing almost like flashes of lightning seen through the swaying branches or the breaking of clouds. One can feel the intensity of nature in this piece.

幹のほとんどが枯れ、白く骨と化した「シャリ」を抱き、引き裂くように枝を反り返して、ダイナミックに右に傾いて伸びる幹姿が見どころの真柏。かつて盆栽雑誌上の試みとして公募・採択された、銘「彩雲」を冠する大型盆栽である。

Japanese Juniper named Sai-un
Most of the trunk has withered and has become dead white wood known as shari. This trunk, which dynamically stretches out to the right while sending out branches that look like they are tearing from it, is the main highlight of this Japanese juniper. The name of this large bonsai Sai-un, meaning “iridescent cloud”, was chosen through a competition in a bonsai magazine.
